Genesis3D News

Website Maintainer

At the end of 2001 I started hosting the Genesis3D website. Since that time a lot has transpired. It is now time for this website to either be passed on to someone else, or, die due to age. You figure Genesis3D 1.1 was released on Nov 16, 1999. It is now over 7 years later. That is a long time for a game engine which was designed before graphic cards really knew what T&L hardware was. If you wish to host the Genesis3D website and keep it around, contact me at LightningTH at GMail dot Com. I would have you email the webmaster account for this website but the mail server is having trouble. I do not know how much longer I will continue to host this site. It could be months, it could be until the domain expires. I just see so little activity on the forum now and the engine is showing it's age that it should be put to rest at some point. -Lightning

WildTangent makes a statement about so called 'hate games' developed using Genesis3D

In an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Report: "Growing Proliferation of Racist Video Games Target Youth on the Internet," there is reference to "an anti-Semitic and racist game created using the powerful open-source game engine Genesis 3D...." We at WildTangent would like to make our relationship to the Genesis3D open source project clear to any interested parties. In October 1999, WildTangent acquired the technology assets of Eclipse Entertainment, the maker of Genesis3D game engine. Before the acquisition, Eclipse made the source code for the Genesis3D engine available to the open source development community. After the acquisition WildTangent turned ownership of the open source effort over to the community and ceased to have further involvement with that effort.

The Genesis3D technology is a general-purpose game engine used by tens of thousands of amateur and professional game developers. We have no more association with the content that is produced on this engine than Microsoft has with the content posted on the Internet that uses Internet Explorer, or a CD manufacturer has with the content distributed on their media.

Any 'game engine' enables independent third parties to author any game of their choosing, no matter how objectionable its content is to us at WildTangent or to the public at large. We at WildTangent regret any association, no matter how distant with the game engine highlighted in the Anti-Defamation League report and certainly do not support nor condone the use of our technologies to sponsor hatred or to recruit individuals to hate groups. - Alex St. John, co-founder and CEO of WildTangent

Genesis3D condemns "hate game" created with the G3D SDK

Recently, news of a "hate game" called "Ethnic Cleansing" has surfaced. This game has been created using Genesis3D and Reality Factory.

Novus Delta, WildTangent, Eclipse Entertainment and the Genesis3D community as a whole, would like to stress that we both condemn and discourage the views expressed in this game.

Genesis3D is an open-source, free, engine. As such, there is little we can do to control the content of each and every product created using Genesis3D. We would like to hope that developers using the engine will be responsible about thier content, but that is not always the case.
